Confidence & Self Esteem

Everyone has times in their lives when we lack confidence and do not feel good about ourselves but if it becomes a long term problem it can have an effect on our mental health and our everyday lives.

What is self-esteem?

Self-esteem is the opinion we have of ourselves.  With healthy self-esteem, we are positive about ourselves and about life & we are able to deal with life's ups and downs.  When our self-esteem is low, we see ourselves & life in a more negative and critical light, feeling less able to take challenges in life.

Average number of sessions: 8 - 12.

What causes low self-esteem?

Low self-esteem often begins in childhood. Teachers, friends, siblings, parents, even the media can send us positive & negative messages about ourselves.   The message that you're not good enough stays with you. Maybe it's difficulties living up to people's expectations of you, or to your own expectations.  Stress & difficult life events, e.g., serious illness or a bereavement, can have a negative effect on self-esteem.

Avoiding challenging or difficult situations might make you feel safe but long term, this reinforces your doubts & fears. All this does is teach you the only way to cope is by avoidance.

Living with low self-esteem can harm your mental health and lead to problems such as depression and anxiety.  You may also develop unhelpful habits, such as smoking and drinking too much, as a way of coping.

With Solution Focused Hypnotherapy I can help review and replace any negative thoughts, behaviours & beliefs which may have created the confidence issues; resulting in a improved self-believe and new attitude.

 â€‹

By using a combination of psychotherapy techniques and trance I can facilitate the process of recovery and by explaining how the brain works, why & how confidence issues are created and what we can do about it.  This process allows the client to think more clearly, rationally.
